Guilty plea vacation and success at subsequent trial

Quentin represented Mr Douglas Staples before the Reading Crown Court. Mr Staples had entered a guilty plea at the Magistrates Court in respect of an alleged matter of Harassment. The matter was appealed to the Reading Crown Court and an application was made to vacate Mr Staples’s guilty plea. This application was successful and the guilty plea was substituted for a Not Guilty plea and the matter was remitted to the Magistrates Court for trial.

At the subsequent trial at Reading Magistrates Court Quentin defended Mr Staples and succeeded in getting the case against Mr Staples dismissed by the judge at the end of the prosecution case resulting in a Not Guilty verdict and an award of costs in the defendant’s favour.
